Rugby Grand Final 2016 Jakarta XV Series - Komodos Vs Banteng
When I started taking photo's of rugby in Indonesia, I had no idea I would fall in love with the game. Although I had grown up in South Africa and New Zealand - two of the most rugby crazy nations you can find - I had never been drawn in. But after a weekend of photographing the Indonesian Universities tournament, I was hooked.
The Jakarta Komodo Rugby Club is a key player in Indonesian Rugby development and sponsor many tournaments and events. With the help of generous volunteers and supporters, they have made an incredible contribution to Indonesian Rugby over the years. Tournaments now include young teams, university teams, development sides from outside of Jakarta and budding local talent. Their work with organisations like Mama Sayang Orphanage & the Priscilla Hall Foundation is producing amazing results with junior and women's rugby.
Taking photos for the Jakarta Komodo Rugby Club is my way of paying it forward. In return I get to experience what rugby is all about - true passion, team, being mates, giving it all on the pitch and having each others backs.
So todays photo post is to the Jakarta Komodo Rugby Club, who won Saturday's Grand Final against the Banteng's. The rivalry was bitter - the determination impressive... and whatever was left unresolved on the pitch, was washed down with a lot of Bintang off it.
